In My Language

Wow. What is thought? What is intellect? What is communication?

Watch this 8 minute video. The first half may seem odd, but stick with it.

  1. Just, wow.

Peter, thank you for posting this. I read your post and thought to myself ‘I don’t really have 8 minutes to watch this thing” – but your short blurb above the video prompted me to.

I almost didn’t make it through the first half, not because it was too odd.. just because it was almost offending to my overstimulated brain (at least today).

I’m glad I made it all the way through the end.

In my work as a nurse, I worked with disabled kids and adults… many of them autistic. I can say without a shadow of a doubt that these folks are probably the most underestimated group of people on the face of the planet. Discrimination, in any form, I believe, is born out of fear, confusion in the face of anything that is not ‘normal’.

This videa is simply amazing, thanks so much for sharing it here. I’m glad I stopped by, and that I took the 8 minutes to watch this. Everyone should.

I especially liked the credits at the end, ‘Acted and sung by: A M Baggs and assorted objects’

  2. Lisa – I totally agree. The thing about this video is that it’s so unexpected. It makes one realize just how much of life we take for granted.

Are you going to sxsw this year?

  3. Peter –

That video was just too amazing, I think I’ve shared it with at least 10 people that I know already. I hope they make it through the first half – it’s truly amazing. I’m still getting goosebumps just thinking about it. Your blog post made my day, really :)

I wanted to go to SXSW and had planned on it, but there’s just too much going on for me right now to justify the time away, unfortunately. I’d really like to be there, though – are you going? I’ll have to live vicariously through people that are actually going this year! :)

(realized I responded to you in email, rather than here. drat! that subscription option ;))

  4. Hey Lisa. My plans to go to SXSW are completely in the hands of my plumber at the moment. Ah, the joys of owing an old house! First it was the roof, now the shower is leaking…

  5. Great Post. It really makes you think what we consider to be language.

Also, I think it’s evidence of how the human mind has created so many different languages based on the way we interact and perceive the world around us.
