‘06: What I’ve learned in under 150 words

say no more than you say yes

get it in writing

take a deposit

send an email after a conversation

you don’t have to suffer

disappointing people hurts more than saying no

don’t assume other people are as motivated as you

spending time with your kids, when nothing is pulling at you, is the greatest thing ever

starting a business is lonely

even doing what you love can be hard

blogging works

we can only make changes now

life exists in the moment, not in the voice in your head

acceptance is the key

buy a really good chair

buy a really big monitor (or 2)

communicate with your clients non-stop

everything will take twice as long as they say it will

it’s ok to take a break from blogging

if your people aren’t giving what you want/need, perhaps the problem lies with you, not with them

If only I could remember these things! And I’m struggling right now with the question of a really good chair. :) It’s definitely going to go in the 2007 budget…

Love these. Really love them. Thank you for sharing such well worded and heart-felt lessons.

Thanks! Oh look, this page is broken. Guess I’ve got some work to do!

Sarah: BUY THE CHAIR. Seriously. Eat ramen for a month.

Karen: you’re making me blush!

Seems i met somebody with same ideas.I had been following those not repeating the mistakes i made with my old blog.

I also got entry in darrens project.

And i am feeding your blog. There wont be another chance to meet so many bloggers

I want a new chair! Great post, I love it! We also participated in this project, stop on by if you get a chance!

Words of wisdom. If only I could remember all these things all the time.

[...] But you can only take the horse to the water and not make it drink. The point of this post is not to say what’s missing in Husband, but just some stuff that I’ve learnt and am learning everyday to be true. I got the gist from Peter Flaschner’s blog. say no more than you say yes [ yeah, Husband says “Yes” more than “No”. ] get it in writing [ this is more relevant for my independent/freelance job ] take a deposit [ ditto for my freelance job ] send an email after a conversation [ I do this with local clients as International Clients never really call ] disappointing people hurts more than saying no [ duh! This is what happened with the holiday trip. Husband did not want to disappoint so he said yes. Now he really cannot go because of extenuating professional circumstances and because he doesn’t really like the holiday destination anyway – there’s a 5-year age difference so I guess it’s ok when the two of us don’t like the same stuff. I wish he’d just said “No” – it would’ve still hurt but for a shorter while. ] don’t assume other people are as motivated as you [ yeah, my friends and family keep telling me that not everyone’s like me – more than making me feel like I’m special/good, it makes me feel like I’m demented! ] starting a business is lonely [ I can vouch for that ] even doing what you love can be hard [ I can vouch for that too ] blogging works [ Oh yeah baby it does! I get ALL my work because of my blog – not this one, the one related to work. ] we can only make changes now [ making changes is NOT the easiest thing that human beings can do – not in the least ] buy a really good chair [ Yeah, I so need to buy an Aeron – as it is I have a slight stoop and then there is no furniture that allows me to do my job comfortably – every time i either have a numb bum or a sore shoulder ] communicate with your clients non-stop [ difficult but necessary, I am still learning ] it’s ok to take a break from blogging [ I write at least six blogs – and I do take a break every once in a while without the guilt ] [...]

Reminds me of one quote I really like- “I do not have time to write a short one, so I’m writing a long one instead”
Haha, it takes more time to summarize sometimes, isn’t it?

May the Force be with you, the Blo-gedi way

Testify! I can totally relate.

Peter, I really liked these. the new design is nice, too :)

“life exists in the moment, not in the voice in your head”
